US Interference Will Destroy SCO and BRICS: Iran’s President Warns Against Subservience to Washington

Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that allowing American domestic politics to influence the decisions of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS will strip these bodies of their power and cohesion, calling on member states to assert their independence and pursue genuine multilateralism.

Hawzah News Agency- The president made the remarks during a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit and the Caspian Sea environmental summit in Turkmenistan, according to a report by the Hawzah News Agency.

Pezeshkian: Talk Must Be Backed by Action

Highlighting the achievements of expanded multilateral engagement, Pezeshkian said the more such interactions and meetings are strengthened, the more multilateral policies and strategies can be operationalized.

He described the SCO summit as effective but stressed that plans must be implemented on the ground, not left on paper.

“In many cases, issues are raised in discussions, but in the implementation phase, these commitments are forgotten. We must strive for decisions and talks to be productive,” he said. “Naturally, when the heads of SCO member states adopt a decision together that is effective in the process of prosperity, and cooperation and interaction flow among countries and their subsidiaries, then we can achieve the goals and horizons we have in mind.”

Pezeshkian described achieving a common language and understanding — and implementing these behavioral standards among all human groups and societies — as a fundamental prerequisite for transformation and growth on Earth.

“In these conditions, we will witness affection, friendship, empathy, kindness, development, and a beautiful horizon. You, as the SCO Secretary-General, bear a heavy responsibility, because you are the coordinator for following up on the implementation of decisions. I hope you succeed in advancing the executive goals and policies,” he told the visiting official.

US Meddling Undermines SCO and BRICS

Turning to American interventions driven by US domestic policy, Pezeshkian warned that such strategies sometimes influence the SCO’s positions.

“The entire purpose of holding summits such as Shanghai or BRICS is for countries that reach agreement and understanding with one another to achieve a common executive framework in financial, economic, commercial, security, and political fields,” he said.

“If the domestic policies of a country like America are to influence the decisions of these summits, these organizations will lose their power and cohesion.”

Pezeshkian said the world must be steered toward multilateralism, noting that the current divide is between the acceptance of unilateralism and multilateralism.

“This is one of the issues that the Islamic Republic of Iran faces in all summits. Of course, some of these issues are gradually being resolved, but some countries still tend toward unilateral approaches and subservience to America’s bullying and colonial policies,” he said.

“Why can we not strengthen and expand relations with our neighbor, while our neighbor follows the policies of a country on the other side of the world? This is the problem that exists. Naturally, in some SCO agreements regarding Iran, the priority is what America thinks about the decisions.”

‘America Is Bullying — The World Must Not Allow It’

Pezeshkian stressed the need to avoid disputes and described dialogue as the fundamental solution to problems and the path to a common vision.

“The process of moving from savagery toward civilization and respect for humanity is time-consuming. Issues that can be achieved through dialogue cannot be achieved through coercion and bullying,” he said.

“We human beings must help one another so that all of humanity can live in prosperity, development, comfort, and health. We must not covet the assets and resources of other countries or think of plundering and aggressing against them. I hope a day comes when we live together on this planet in peace and tranquility.”

“America is bullying, and countries must cooperate with one another not to allow it. Of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands firmly on its principles with authority. We thank you for your efforts on the path toward establishing peace and tranquility.”

SCO Chief Agrees: Unilateralism Must Be Rejected

The SCO Secretary-General endorsed Pezeshkian’s remarks, saying, “We agree and share the same view. This organization is a place where the words of heads of states and governments will be brought to fruition and action.”

Citing his experience at the organization — two years as deputy secretary-general and roughly two years as secretary-general — he said tangible and effective results have been achieved.

“Over 25 years of SCO activity, we have implemented the orders and agreements that the presidents of member states committed to on paper. Of course, some statements and proposals that lack a tangible format and real framework naturally cannot be implemented,” he said.

He stressed that to achieve results from these proposals; the special coordinators of each country must follow up on the proposed issues and strategies. Under SCO rules, proposals cannot be implemented without consensus, he noted, while emphasizing that proposals put forward by a president must be brought to fruition.

Some Members Prioritize Bilateral Ties Over Collective Action

The Secretary-General echoed Pezeshkian’s rejection of unilateralism, expressing regret that some countries prefer unilateralism in their working relations.

“Unfortunately, some SCO member states prioritize their bilateral relations over working relations with the entire bloc — in other words, they attach great value to these relations compared to other countries. As a result, some decisions may not align with the organization’s overall policies,” he said.

He proposed that agreements made regarding Iran that have not been implemented be listed so they can be addressed through ambassadors and representatives.

“We all strive to achieve the issue of peace and tranquility, and the essence of the SCO’s existence is based on this principle. Non-recourse to force and respect for the territorial integrity of countries are important and must be adhered to in practice,” he said.

“Everyone has the right to benefit peacefully from nuclear energy and must adhere to the principle of non-proliferation and non-development of nuclear weapons.”
